The Point Orford Heritage Society is a community-based non-profit 501(c)(3) organization in the town of Port Orford on Oregon’s south coast.  The Society is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the rich heritage of Port Orford and the neighboring locale.

Point Orford Heritage Society sponsors meetings and events, establishes exhibits, identifies local landmarks and is especially interested in telling Port Orford’s story.  Current projects include restoration of the former Coast Guard Lifeboat Station at the headlands, restoration of a 36-foot motor lifeboat, and interviews with long-term residents to create a video and audio library of oral histories of the area.  The Heritage Society also hosts an annual lecture series covering diverse topics such as geology of Oregon’s south coast, archeology, local architecture, and of course, local history.

In 2008, the Society awarded its first of what we hope will be an annual scholarship to a graduating student of Pacific High School who has elected to pursue a college degree in preservation, history or a related field.
